In a world unsustainable by design, we must rethink our relation to the image. To do so, I activate Malabou’s concept of plasticity to propose a materialist conception of the image as imago, which consists of the object in the world in interaction with the neural networks in the brain. Reviewing both a history of human unsustainability and a history of the idea of future, I then consider Derrida’s notion of time as trace and Malabou’s formulation of plasticity, the latter as derived from Hegel and as applied to the image. Finally, I consider the historical rift that developed between art and design at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, and review its contemporary configuration in the work of Ranciére, Berardi and Groys. I then conclude by proposing a new model of image practice as arte-facture, the activity of making-wonder.

Decentralised clean energy (DCE) systems are positioned to play key role in meeting the global targets of 100% energy access. However, there are certain aspects that need to be
addressed for success of these technologies. Firstly, task of expanding energy access through these systems, to “energy poor” pose a formidable challenge to planners and development practitioners. However, economic development in several developing countries, increasing urbanisation, along with dynamic energy access programmes has played a crucial part.
Secondly, for efficient delivery of services, selection of a right business model that suits its stakeholders is important. This aspect is usually paid less attention when success of any
technology is discussed. Thirdly, these solutions require systematic analysis and research which need to be looked from the local perspective. Developing institutional, business or financial models for rural electricity supply could be a lot more complex and dynamic.
With aforementioned issues in mind, activity of preparing a detailed case study was undertaken. The aim of this activity was to assess cost-effectiveness of decentralised clean
energy solutions and to analyse delivery models innovated by energy enterprises for commercial viability and sustainability purposes. This exercise also attempted to understand whether these technologies are socially acceptable, institutionally viable and environmentally desirable and whether various financial mechanisms act as uptake drivers.
The projects selected for the study are “Solar home lighting model in Gujarat on creating a link between energy service and income generation, using innovative financing as a catalyst implemented by SELCO and SEWA Bank, 2007” and “Pico-hydro model in Karnataka implemented by S3IDF and Prakruthi Hydro Labs (PHL) in 2009.” These two projects were
supported by REEEP (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership) which is also the knowledge partner for the study.
Methodology included extensive literature survey including mainly REEEP evaluation reports, third party evaluation studies. This was followed by stakeholder discussions with
implementing agencies and partners. On-site project visits, House-to-house visits for user feedback were also taken to validate the findings. Based on the information gathered,
analysis and conclusion have been presented in the end of the paper.
In the two case studies, it was realised that though these system are accepted by the beneficiaries, but their level of acceptance may vary pertaining to different factors, which
may or may not be local to the region. Further, for any business model to kick start there is essential requirement of seed funding, either in form or grant or soft loan. This is because in terms of investment it is still on a higher side for a rural stakeholder, be it an entrepreneur or beneficiary. Hence, an initial financial support plays a critical role. The impact of technologies cannot be quantified in every aspect however; one can clearly see improvement in quality of life.

The Uttarkhand Disaster of June 2013 is an alarming threat to the development designers. Initially, the cause of the disaster was Cloud burst and associating flash flood, landslide. However, the disaster has been chronically accumulated with uncontrolled human activities in this Himalayan tract. No doubt this disaster is an adverse effect of ruthless development processes. After the separation from U.P, the State Authorities have promoted mass tourism for quick development. Unplanned and uncontrolled growths of Urban Centers and Road Communication have been encouraged with the promotion of Mass tourism. There is no such mountain slope remain in Uttarakhand without a road or tourism infrastructure. Forests have been wiped out for urban needs and slope become unstable with dynamite blast for construction of roads. Water of holy rivers and confluences are being polluted with the urban sewerage and solid wastes. Eco-sensitive zones are losing ecological balance with influx of vehicular movement and emulsion of green house gasses. Once, the ‘Dev Bhumi’ or Land of God is becoming jungle of concrete and land of pollution. This paper is an analytical approach to explore the impact of Urbanization, Mass Tourism, influx of road connectivity and vehicular movement on environment of mountain areas of Uttarakhand.

This study aims to determine the efforts devoted in managing wildlife in national parks and game reserves in Tanzania. Specifically, the study focused on evaluating the population and poaching trends of African elephants (Loxodonta africana) in these protected areas that follow under two different management regimes. Furthermore the study identified sources of market failure and suggested economic incentive mechanisms that will improve conservation status of wildlife in Tanzania. Data from secondary sources were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U test in comparing the rate of population increases and poaching per annum for the two protected areas. The results showed that Serengeti National park has a significant higher rate of population increase of 15% than Moyowosi game reserve that has 9% only. Furthermore the study revealed that, Moyowosi game reserve has a significant high rate of poaching than Serengeti National park. Finally, due to having two different bodies that manage these protected areas, government market failure was identified in Moyowosi game reserve than Serengeti national park. It is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the spatial and visual impacts resulting from major infrastructure projects, and the effects of climate change on regional landscape strategies. Current major environmental issues have significantly increased the interest for a green development of the existing and future infrastructure. Although there is need for a sustainable approach in strategic and urban forms, there is no evidence on how to embed it in spatial scale in a way that will create an integrated regional strategy. The research discussed in this paper aims to establish a new way of conceptualizing and delivering infrastructure projects, to discuss the need of a holistic approach into the concept of sustainable infrastructure and the importance of the visualizations during the design process. Its main focus is where the UK’s main interest, the development of a new urban form, currently appears. Looking at the idea of the sustainable low carbon vision for new settlements, this study explores garden cities design, in order to investigate what does this mean, and how it looks like. This research examines the possibility of a sustainable form in urban design and planning, and aims to identify whether sustainability is able to perform visually in a wider spatial scale, and how this affects both the design and planning process and the formation of designers’ decisions. Using a selection of spatial strategy visualizations, we investigate if and how sustainability has a 'spatial dimension' and the different way this is reflected in landscape-scale strategic projects. The research core is the recently submitted at Wolfson prize Garden cities plans, where some of the winning projects will be presented, analysed and discussed in a way that investigates how words are interpreted to drawing and how low carbon element impacts on the master plan. Following the investigation of pictorial forms, in depth interviews with designers and an exhibition will explore how the main ideas are being communicated through the projects and where the sustainable/low carbon form has or could have been achieved. The aim is to investigate how different interpretation of elements such as spatial quality, aesthetics, and sustainability/low carbon are evident into the plans and what they look like at a regional scale. Preliminary findings of sketches, drawings or concept diagrams will be presented in this paper, identifying how they are evidence of sustainability and how this might have impact on the different master plans. Moreover, the connection between ideas and sustainable/low carbon design principles at a regional scale will be discussed, together with how these could form the outcome of the final design.

The purpose of this paper is to develop a concept of Environmental Sustainable Value Delivery Network (ESVDN). Therefore, an extensive review of available literature and reports that are directly or indirectly related to the concepts of Environmental Sustainable (ES) and Value Delivery Network (VDN) was performed. In doing so, we identified the drivers and analyzed their mutual influence. In this methodological approach we used a tool named the Environmental Sustainability - adjusted Value Delivery Network Index (ES- adjusted VDNI) in order to measure the extent to which the actors of VDN pursuing environmentally sustainable practices. This tool provides a deeper understanding of key environmental drivers that affect on the VDN productivity of longer term and a sound base for analyses and assesses the quality of Macedonian and Serbian environmental sustainable value delivery practices based on the responsible use and protection of the natural environment. The findings suggest that the Serbian actors in VDN have better environmental practices from Macedonian actors. These findings should help countries and companies perceive the new challenges and the relationship between them to be better understood in order environmental policies and strategies to be adopted and the desired environmental sustainability objectives and progress to be achieved.

Key words: Environmental practices, Value Delivery Network drivers, index, actors

This chapter reviews research concerning a number of specific topics of current relevance to social issues and presents suggestions for future research.  First, in view of the pervasiveness of the term "social responsibility," the various ways in which that term have been conceptualized and operationalized are reviewed.  Second, research concerning the relationship of social responsibility to  organizational effectiveness is evaluated.  Third, linkages of social performance research to the literature on organizational behavior and organization theory are explored.  Fourth, research concerning social attitude dimensions and their correlates is reviewed.  Fifth, Steiner (1972) and others have noted that an important aspect of the social responsibility of business involves internal conditions -- operations within the corporation itself.  Consequently, research is reviewed concerning three areas of timely interests: managerial values, equal employment, and the quality of work life.  Finally, certain methodological issues relating to surveys of social issues are considered.
