Artstor and The American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) have partnered to share more than 64,000 images depicting Indian art and architecture in the Digital Library. These images have been selected from the AIIS Photo Archive, which is housed in the Center for Art and Archaeology in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. The Photo Archive consists of approximately 140,000 photographs, slides, architectural drawings, and site plans. Subjects include stone, metal, and terracotta sculpture, numismatics, painting, manuscripts and miniature paintings, as well as Buddhist, Jain, Hindu, and Islamic architecture. These images meticulously document a range of visual traditions from South Asian art and architecture, proceeding from general views to details for each monument and object. In all, approximately 3,000 monuments from 2,000 sites and 300 museums are included in the collection. A significant portion of the archive is already available online through the Digital South Asia Library. 

The AIIS is a consortium of universities and colleges in the United States at which scholars actively engage in teaching and research about India. Since 1961, the AIIS has provided fellowship and research support to over 6,000 scholars and creative artists, resulting in thousands of books and articles in disciplines ranging from anthropology to zoology. In addition to the fellowship program, the AIIS offers advanced language training at Language Centers throughout India, and extends knowledge of Indian culture through its two research centers in Gurgaon, each with extensive libraries and archives: The Archives and Research Center for Ethnomusicology (ARCE), and The Center for Art and Archaeology (CA&A).
