Ben Adida

Ben Adida studied Cryptography and Information Security at MIT. His specific technology interests include authentication infrastructures, electronic voting, reliable and secure transactional storage, and web application software development. He's a member of the Creative Commons Technology Advisory Board and of the Center for Strategic and International Studies Authentication Workgroup. At the Berkman Center, Ben works on two fronts: balancing the interests of business and free software, and strengthening privacy in the context of the war on terror.

Dalida María Benfield

Dalida María Benfield is a media artist, activist, and scholar whose work addresses interrelated questions of media representations of gender, race, and nation; media justice; and artists’ and activists’ uses of ICTs globally. As a Fellow at the Berkman Center, she is pursuing a research project on the rhetorical uses of race and gender in the online presence of ICT4D programs.

James Bessen

James Bessen is currently a Berkman faculty associate and a Lecturer in Law at Boston University School of Law where he does research on the economics of technological innovation, including patents and Free/Open Source Software.

Michael Best

Michael L. Best directs the United Nations University Institute on Computing and Society (UNU-CS) in Macao SAR, China. He is a professor, on leave, with the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology where he directs the Technologies and International Development Lab.

Sara Boettiger

Sara Boettiger is an economist and social impact advisor. She is Assistant Adjunct Professor at UC Berkeley, Senior Advisor to Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture, a Fellow at the Berkman Center and a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Councils.

He is Ivan Allen College Distinguished Chair in Media Studies and Professor of Interactive Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Founding Partner at Persuasive Games LLC. James has five years experience in public policy and over ten years researching the intersection of information, technology and power. He is a PhD candidate with the School of International Studies and the Department of Media Studies at Stockholm University in Sweden working on a dissertation focused on the tensions between states and internet companies and the relationship to national sovereignty, citizenship and the flow of information.

Yanni Alexander Loukissas

Yanni Alexander Loukissas is a Principal at metaLAB, a research project of the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University that explores digital futures for scholarship in the arts and humanities. He is also a Lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he teaches courses in Architecture as well as Art, Design and the Public Domain.

Maria Lillà Montagnani is associate professor of commercial law at Bocconi University in Milan, where she teaches and researches in the field of Intellectual Property Law. She is head of ASK, a research center devoted to the promotion of cultural planning and cultural institutions management activities. Her current research interest is "Copyright and Architecture", in particular, the role of new technologies in facilitating civic engagement in relation to urban and architectural spaces.

Odewale has degrees in Chemistry (Medicinal Chemistry) and Chemical Engineering Technology. Born in Lagos, South West Nigeria, he also holds professional training diplomas in Community Local Participation (UNICEF); International Elections Observation Missions (KAIPTC/ECOWAS); Mentoring Young Leaders under the Kwame Nkrumah emerging leaders training series, and; the African Contingency Operations and Training Assistance (ACOTA) (ECOWAS) among others.

Kara Oehler

Kara Oehler is a 2011-2012 Radcliffe-Film Study Center Fellow at Harvard University. She is a radio documentary producer and media artist whose work over the past decade has focused upon pushing the boundaries of narrative journalism both on the air and across multiple platforms, combining investigative storytelling with participatory media, building new systems and opportunities for education and artistic practice.

Kurt Opsahl is the Deputy General Counsel of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. In addition to representing clients on civil liberties, free speech and privacy law, Opsahl counsels on EFF projects and initiatives.

Julio Angel Ortiz

Julio Angel is a broadband fellow at The Berkman Center for Internet & Society. Previously, he was a Post Doctoral Fellow in the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers. His research focuses on the social and policy consequences of the production and consumption of information. He is particularly interested in examining the take-up and uses of broadband networks in regards to their potential impact on communities, quality of life, and digital social inclusion.

Rajesh questions the widespread belief that information technology can be used to "solve" either development or governance "problems," both by engaging in activism involving technological interventions and by using empirical methods to critically examine claims about the impact of ICT in governance.
