Christopher B. Daly, an associate
professor in Boston University’s Department of Journalism, is the author of Covering America: A Narrative History of
a Nation’s Journalism. He previously reported on New
England for the Washington Post (1989 to 1997) and served as
statehouse bureau chief for the Associated Press in Boston (1982–1989). On
