Kuban agro holding launched an 8,400-ton slaughterhouse and a 50,000 head hog farm in Krasnodar region.

PONY EXPRESS opened Moscow’s first joint visa application center and started operations in Belarus.

2014

Basic Element raised stake in Austrian construction group Strabag SE to 25 percent plus one share (a blocking minority stake).

Construction business of Basic Element was restructured.

A yacht marina was opened in Imeretinskiy Resort and Apartments complex in Sochi.

GAZ Group started serial production of a new medium-duty truck GAZon NEXT.

Russian Machines and China North Industries Corp (NORINCO) signed a memorandum of understanding. Under the agreement, the two companies will strengthen alliance in production of cars and trucks.

UC RUSAL and Israeli company Omen High Pressure Die Casting (“Omen”), a specialist producer of automotive components from non-ferrous metals, signed a shareholder agreement to create a joint venture to produce automotive components.

Basic Element published a book “100 Russian Engineers Who Changed Our Life” dedicated to the development of Russian engineering innovations over the last 300 years.

2013

Production of the new-generation light commercial vehicle GAZelle Next and contract assembly of Mercedes-Benz and Chevrolet vehicles started at GAZ autoplant in Nizhniy Novgorod.

En+ Group and Shenhua, China's largest coal producer, won a competition to jointly develop Zashulansk coal deposit in Russia’s Transbaikal territory with a right to explore and produce 252 million tons of black coal.

Construction of a route alternate to Sochi’s main thoroughfare Kurortny Avenue, was completed.

Imeretinsky resort complex was built in Sochi.

Revamp of Sochi International Airport was completed, a new VIP-terminal and a terminal for state leader and diplomats were built.

Airport Development, a company that focuses on the infrastructural development of the projects in the area around the airports and manages other companies providing their services to the airports, was established.

1997

Sibirsky Aluminium is established at the Sayanogorsk aluminium smelter. The group’s assets include Russia’s largest producer of foil, Sayana Foil, and the Dmitrov pilot plant, which produces aluminium can sheets.

Sibirsky Aluminium starts the construction of Rostar, a facility focused on the production of aluminium beverage cans.

The group also sets up the Soyuzmetalresurs holding in Eastern Siberia and a holding company, Pifagor, based in Moscow.

1998

Sibirsky Aluminium takes over the management of Samara metal works, Europe’s largest producer of rolled aluminium.

The group launches a machinery business division, which includes the Aviacor aircraft factory in Samara, Russia’s only producer of Tu-154 and An-140 medium haul airplanes, and the Abakanvagonmash facility in Khakassia, which produces railway containers.

The group establishes a private pension fund, Sotsium.

1999

Sibirsky Aluminium acquires a stake in Ukraine’s Nikolaev Alumina Refinery, one of the largest providers of raw materials for aluminium production.

2000

A merger of the aluminium and alumina assets of Sibirsky Aluminium with Sibneft creates RUSAL, currently the world’s largest producer of aluminium.

Sibirsky Aluminium acquires controlling stakes in the Gorky Automobile Plant and the Pavlovo Bus Plant.

2001

Sibirsky Aluminium is renamed Basic Element.

A holding group, Ruspromavto, is set up to manage the group’s facilities in the automotive sector.

The company finalizes the acquisition of GAZ Group.

Sibirsky Aluminium acquires stakes in Irkutskenergo and Krasnoyarsk HPP, the largest energy companies in Eastern Siberia.

The group acquires a controlling stake in Ingosstrakh-Soyuz bank.

2002

Continental Management acquires Yenisei and Baikal pulp and paper mills and other facilities producing paper and cardboard.

2003

Basic Element boosts its stake in RUSAL and Ruspromavto to 75%.

2004

Basic Element becomes the sole owner of RUSAL and Ruspromavto.

The group acquires the Afipsky Oil Refinery and Kuban Airlines.

Element Leasing is established.

2005

Russian Machines (part of Basic Element’s machinery division) assumes management of the group’s machinery assets.

Basic Element acquires controlling stakes in Glavmosstroy, one of the largest construction companies in Moscow and the Moscow region, Mospromstroymaterialy, and MosMontazhSpetsstroy.

The group acquires a controlling stake in Montenegro’s Kombinat Aluminijuma Podgorica (Podgorica aluminium smelter) and a stake in Montenegro’s Bauxite Mines Niksic. The management of both facilities, together with a stake in Romania’s Cemtrade S.A. alumina refinery is assumed by the Central European Aluminium Company (CEAC).

2006

En+ Group (part of Basic Element’s energy sector) assumes management of the group’s energy assets.

Basic Element acquires a stake in Batu Mining, a mining company based in Mongolia. Batu Mining holds licenses to develop 11 gold, silver and copper deposits.

The group acquires stakes in Sochi, Krasnodar, Anapa and Gelendzhik airports.

2007

The merger of RUSAL, SUAL and the alumina assets of Switzerland's Glencore creates United Company RUSAL, the global leader in aluminium production.

Russian Machines acquires a 20% stake in Canada’s MAGNA, the world’s largest producer of automotive components.

Basic Element companies become shareholders in Austria’s Strabag (25%), Germany’s Hochtief (9.99%) and Russia’s Transstroy (50%).

The group establishes Basel Aero, that manages airports in Krasnodar, Sochi, Gelendzhik, Anapa and Eisk.

2008

RUSAL acquires a strategic stake in Norilsk Nickel.

Basic Element becomes the sole owner of Transstroy, Russia’s leading construction holding group.

Due to the economic recession, Basic Element sells its stakes in Canada’s Magna and Germany’s Hochtief.

Gazpromregiongaz becomes a shareholder in Soyuz bank.

Glavstroy is transformed into a holding company managing the construction assets of Basic Element.

2009

Basic Element implements a large-scale crisis management program across all its production facilities. A series of measures aimed at boosting the efficiency of operations and reducing production costs enables the group to successfully weather the crisis and create a foundation for further growth and diversification.

By the end of the year Basic Element reaches agreements with its lenders to restructure the debts of all of the group’s companies.

2010

RUSAL lists its shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the NYSE Euronext in Paris. In December 2010 RUSAL also lists its RDRs (Russian depositary receipts) on Russia’s MICEX and RTS stock exchanges.

The Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) and Ingosstrakh become shareholders in Soyuz Bank.

Basic Element completes the construction of a new airport in Gelendzhik, the first new airport to be built in Russia in the last 25 years.

Basic Element takes over the management of the assets of the Russian Asian Investment Company (RAINCO).

The group’s business is further strengthened through the acquisition of new facilities operating in the agriculture, timber, textile and media sectors. New assets also include sea ports, fuel filling complexes, destribution services and venture companies.

2011

VTB Capital becomes a shareholder in En+Group.

En+ Group fixed En+ Logistics Company to provide complex logistic services for group’s companies.

The construction of the main line railroad in Yakutia “Berkait-Tommot-Yakutsk” has been completed and connected to Trans-Siberian railroad and Baykal-Amur Railroad.

Basic Element establishes Kuban Express, that provides taxi services to airports in the Krasnodar region.

2012

Basic Element, Sberbank of Russia and Changi Airports International establish a joint venture focused on managing airports. The JV includes airports in Sochi, Krasnodar, Gelendzhik and Anapa.

Skoda Yeti assembly line has been launched on Gaz factory in Nizhniy Novgorod.

Sochi Imeretinsky port has been launched to deliver cargoes to Sochi in the framework of the Olympic construction programme.

The new generation of GAZelle Next has been presented. This is the most popular auto in light commercial transport segment in CIS.

The construction of Serebryansky Cement Plant has been finished; it is one of the largest plants in Russia producing cement by “dry” technology.
