AMMAN — Prime Minister Awn Khasawneh on Sunday inaugurated the second and third sections of the Amman Development Corridor at Al Madouna in east Amman.

The corridor is part of the 120-kilometre Amman Ring Road, which will link the airport highway with the Syrian border and Yajouz.

The second and third phases of the corridor, which stretch over 22 kilometres, seek to ease traffic congestion in the Amman and Zarqa governorates, reduce traffic accidents and improve the environmental situation in the two cities.

The second phase of the project, implemented at a cost of JD52 million funded by the World Bank, consists of a 13.5km road from Al Ghabawi to Wadi Al Ash in Zarqa.

The third phase includes an 8km two-lane road funded by the European Investment Bank at a cost of JD57 million.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Kisbi said the corridor will help attract more investments to the Kingdom.

He noted that the project seeks to link the northern region of the Kingdom with the south without the need to pass through Amman, which is currently suffering from heavy congestion.
