Orson Welles fans hoping the U.S. Postal Service would issue a stamp honoring the late actor-director on the 100th anniversary of his birth next year received discouraging news this week.

The Washington Post has obtained a January 7 listing of approved subjects by The Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee. The annual Legends of Hollywood – a fitting series to honor Welles – will feature a Charlton Heston stamp later this year. Ingrid Bergman will be honored in 2015 (the centennial of the Swedish actress' birth) and Elizabeth Taylor the following year.

Other entertainers to be featured on U.S. stamps within the next two years include talk show king Johnny Carson and musicians Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. There was no mention of Welles on the lengthy list of subjects.

Welles' image appeared on a U.S. stamp in 1999 in a scene from his landmark film "Citizen Kane."

Wellesnet and Woodstock Celebrates Inc. had lobbied the U.S. Postal Service in 2012 to consider a Welles stamp in 2015.

Those wishing to add their voice should mail a letter in support of a Welles stamp to The Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee at:
