BBC Music Awards shortlists announced

BBC Music has today announced the performers and performances shortlisted for British Artist of the Year, International Artist of the Year and BBC Live Performance of the Year ahead of next week’s BBC Music Awards.

The winners will be announced at the award show at the Genting Arena, Birmingham on the Thursday 10 December 2015 and broadcast on BBC One and Radio 2 that night from 8 to 10pm.

The six shortlisted artists in each category are:

  • Adele
  • Ed Sheeran
  • Jamie XX
  • Florence + The Machine
  • Foals
  • Years & Years

International Artist of the Year

  • Foo Fighters
  • Hozier
  • Major Lazer
  • Prince
  • Taylor Swift
  • The Weeknd

BBC Live Performance of the Year

  • Adele at the BBC; BBC One Special
  • Florence + The Machine; Glastonbury
  • Jeff Lynne’s ELO; Radio 2 In Concert
  • Lionel Richie; Glastonbury
  • Late Night With… BBC Radio 1 at the BBC Proms; BBC Proms
  • Late Night With… BBC Radio 1Xtra at the BBC Proms; BBC Proms

Now in its second year, the BBC Music Awards will be hosted by Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton and will take place in front of a live audience at Birmingham’s Genting Arena as well as being broadcast to millions across the country on BBC One, Radio 1, Radio 2 and at bbc.co.uk/music.

In a star-studded evening celebrating an amazing year in music, the event will be jammed with spectacular performances from some of the biggest names in the business and hot new talent alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra. The internationally recognised names taking the stage during the evening will be: Ellie Goulding, Faithless, Hozier, James Bay, Jess Glynne, Little Mix, Mumford and Sons, OMI, One Direction, Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, Rod Stewart and The Shires plus BBC Introducing Artist of the Year Jack Garratt.

The BBC Music Awards will feature five awards in total: British Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year as decided by the BBC Music panel, Song of the Year voted for by members of the public, and a special award for a BBC Introducing artist. This year there is a new award – BBC Live Performance of the Year – which will be given to the band or artist who has delivered THE stand out BBC Music live moment of 2015, also voted by the BBC Music panel.

Voting for the Song of the Year Awards will take place on Wednesday 9 December. Full details will be announced next week.

The BBC Music Awards take place on Thursday 10 December between 4pm and 6pm. Tickets are priced £39 to £53 and are available from bbc.co.uk/musicawards. Radio 1 will be on air and backstage throughout the event from 4 to 7pm. The event will then be broadcast on BBC One, Radio 2 and at bbc.co.uk/music at 8pm the same evening.
