June 2015
The hours between midnight and 5 a.m. are not times of rest for many Palestinian children living under Israeli occupation.
In these early hours of the morning, children - between the ages of 12 and 17 - are being blindfolded, hands tied behind their backs, as they're taken away from their families for interrogation.
Take action to protect Palestinian children living under Israeli occupation.
Since 2003, more than 7,000 Palestinian children living in the occupied West Bank have been arrested, detained, interrogated, and, in some cases, imprisoned by Israeli security forces. In addition, Israeli forces have been responsible for injuring more than 1,500 Palestinian children there in the span of three years.
The prosecution and trial of Palestinian children by Israel's juvenile military courts violates children's rights to a fair trial. Israeli military courts do not provide the additional protections that are required under international standards for juveniles.
Demand that the human rights of Palestinian children are respected.
While Palestinian children and adults face Israeli military courts, Jewish Israeli settlers benefit from Israeli civil law. Israel gives Jewish settlers a different system of justice - even though they are living illegally in the very same occupied Palestinian territories.
In recent months, Israeli authorities have engaged in ongoing dialogue regarding the rights of children in military detention, but Palestinian children continue to be arrested and held in military detention that violates their basic human rights.
Dialogue is not enough. The human rights of all children must be respected and protected. Join me in the push to make the human rights of Palestinian children a top priority.
