'Star Trek Beyond' trailer debuts

(The Hollywood Reporter)A "Star Trek" movie tradition returns in the first trailer for next year's "Star Trek Beyond": the destruction of the Enterprise.

Space, it seems, is not only the final frontier, but one that's particularly unforgiving towards starships, no matter which timeline the crew is in.

Much to fans' likely upset, the first peek at Justin Lin's take on the long-running science fiction franchise lacks a glimpse at Idris Elba's villain, although it does include a number of eye-catching stunts (who knew that Simon Pegg's Scotty would be so ready to leap out of an escape pod seemingly headed towards certain death?), a suggestion of a plot that might see the Enterprise crew trapped on an alien planet and forced to become slaves, and a more humorous take on the series than the previous two installments.

All this and the return of the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage."

The trailer for the movie will accompany "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in theaters this week, with the latter movie's director acting as executive producer for "Beyond."
