Megabus, which operates the blue double-decked buses, announced it will end its service in Kansas City and Columbia next Wednesday.
“Customer demand has been declining, which Megabus.com continued to monitor with the hopes it would turn around, but sadly it did not,” Sean Hughes, director of corporate affairs for Megabus.com North America, said in a statement Thursday.
Megabus said the decision to cancel service was an “unfortunate but necessary action.”
Megabus has been serving Kansas City since 2007 and Columbia since 2008.
Out of Kansas City, Megabus offered service to Columbia, St. Louis and Chicago. The low-cost, express bus company will refund any reservations in full.
Megabus, which offers fares as low as $1 over the Internet, has served more than 40 million customers since launching in 2006.
