BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Motion picture shoots can bring millions in revenue to cities, so Mayor Byron Brown said he’s happy to announce parts of a popular movie sequel will be filmed in Buffalo.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, a sequel to a popular Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies film, is going to shoot a series of action sequences in parts of the City of Buffalo.

“We are pleased to have this major movie production in Buffalo,” Brown said. “We look forward to a great experience for city residents, city merchants and Paramount Pictures.”

Brown said the production will have millions of dollars in economic impact, as the film crew needs to support their time in Buffalo with food, hotel booking and equipment costs, as well as local employment opportunities for free lancers.

Although many are excited about the opportunity, the opening of Buffalo to film crews will slow down traffic in the City of Buffalo.

The Kensington Expressway will be closed between rush hours from 7 p.m. through 6 a.m., forcing Route 33 east traffic to halt from downtown Buffalo to Route 198 over a span of days. Crews will require the closure over a 13 day span from May 4 through May 17.

Brown said they’re working to secure more film deals in the future, which will have positive economic impact, but could inconvenience residents.

The movie stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett who also starred in the first film. Stephen Amell, of the hit CW23 show “Arrow” joins the cast for the sequel.
