Shikhar Dhawan missed the match against Pakistan due to a niggle on his left ankle and his participation for the Sri Lanka clash is also in doubt.
Dhawan, though, did do some light batting practise and took a few catches but looked far from comfortable.
Ajinkya Rahane, who replaced Dhawan for the Pakistan clash, will need to bear added responsibility if Rohit and Dhawan are both ruled out.
Along with Rahane, Virat Kohli will also need to be at his best if the Indian batting is to make an impact against the Lankan attack
Skipper MS Dhoni is another injury doubt. He has been suffering from back spasms and could opt for rest.
Parthiv Patel could make his debut in the tournament if Dhoni is rested. He could also double up as the second opener if both Rohit and Dhawan are ruled out
Malinga had only just returned and played a starring role in Lanka's win over UAE. However, his knee injury again flared up and missed his team's loss to Bangladesh.
Angelo Mathews, who opened the bowling against Bangladesh, will need to take more responsibility with the ball if Sri Lanka are to have any chance.
