Aligarh is as pointed and poignant a portrait of loneliness as any that Indian cinema has ever produced
"The script, the character, his life which went unnoticed are a few points which grabbed my attention. I realised that it's a great script and character and if I do it well, it will be an amazing milestone in my career. I feel that one will see many more films like Aligarh coming up in days to come," said Manoj Bajpayee
Aligarh is based on the real-life story of Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, a professor at Aligarh Muslim University who was removed from his job for homosexuality. KJo attended a screening of the movie in Mumbai, which he found "poignant, moving and heartbreaking"
The makers of Aligarh invited Karan Johar for a screening in Mumbai on January 27. "Aligarh is a beautiful film. Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao's performances in the film are fantastic. I am emotionally moved by Aligarh," said Karan.
Hansal Mehta's critically acclaimed movie Aligarh opened the 17th edition of Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival on October 30. The movie, which co-stars Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao, is based on the life of a professor who faces trouble in his professional life because of his sexuality.
Hansal Mehta, who has made movies like Citylights and Shahid, is all set to have his next movie Aligarh premiere at the Busan International Film Festival. Set in Aligarh, the movie, which stars Rajkummar Rao and Manoj Bajpayee, is based on a real life story concerning a professor and a young journalist.
