International activities of the City of Vienna
Main destinations
The City of Vienna is actively involved in a large number of cooperation projects with other cities and regions worldwide. The main focus, however, is being put on about four main activities per year in particularly important international markets. The respective programmes - a blend of political consultations, business presentations, cultural programmes, networking events, and experts talks - usually are several days in length and organised in cooperation with partners such as the Vienna Tourist Board, the Vienna Business Agency (VBA), the Chamber of Commerce, private enterprises, as well as Austrian Embassies, Consulates and Trade Commissions on location.

Viennese Balls and Galas as high-class networking events
Viennese Balls and Gala events abroad, co-funded by the Press and Information Services of the City of Vienna for more than 30 years, have become one of Vienna's most popular cultural exports. About 40 Balls and Galas are held each year in cities such as New York, Barcelona, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Rome, Prague, Bucharest, Berlin, and Moscow. The Viennese Ball in Moscow for instance is attended by almost 1,400 high-ranking guests each year and marks the highlight of social life in the Russian capital.
Viennese Balls, which usually get excellent response by local media, are an important instrument to promote incoming tourism and Vienna's image as city of refined culture abroad. The City of Vienna also uses these high-class events to promote political, cultural and business contacts. In some cases even business-related and public relations events are held in the host cities on the sidelines of these happenings.
