Proceedings and Addresses of the American Philosophical Association

The Proceedings and Addresses has historically been the primary publication for important news and information about the APA and its activities. Beginning with the 2013-2014 membership year, the Proceedings and Addresses will no longer exist in its previous print format, transitioning to a single annual print volume rather than five issues per year. The annual volume will include the annual presidential addresses and prize lectures, as well as the memorial minutes and awards; this print volume will be mailed in the fall only to those members who subscribe for print mailing. The volume will be available online to all members. The divisional meeting programs will continue to be printed for distribution at the annual meetings but will no longer be mailed in advance. Meeting programs will, however, be available online several months before each meeting. All other content previously published in the Proceedings and Addresses, including minutes of board meetings, divisional business meetings, and divisional executive committee meetings, will now be available online only.

APA Newsletters

Many APA committees produce newsletters of high quality, peer-reviewed scholarship. Newsletters are published in the spring and fall. The APA's current newsletters include the following:

Job Placement Service

APA membership includes free use of the placement service at the three annual divisional meetings.

Journal of the American Philosophical Association (J-APA)

The American Philosophical Association is partnering with Cambridge University Press (CUP) to launch the Journal of the American Philosophical Association (J-APA), a new general philosophy journal appearing quarterly beginning in 2015. It will be a primarily online publication, with print being available widely at first and by request thereafter. The journal will be provided to all APA members free of charge.

Committees

Only APA members are eligible to serve on the APA's twenty committees.

Voting Privileges

Regular members (including emeritus members) affiliated with a division of the APA are entitled to vote on divisional and association matters. Members elect officers of their respective divisions and also vote to approve amendments to the national association and divisional bylaws as well as resolutions.

Paper Submissions

Only APA members are eligible to submit papers for consideration on the divisional programs.

Grants and Prizes

Only APA members are eligible for most APA prizes and fellowships, and nominations for most prizes are accepted from APA members only. APA prizes and fellowships recognize excellence in scholarship in a variety of areas of philosophy and from scholars at all career stages.

Further, the APA grant fund accepts proposals from APA members only. The grant fund, sponsored by the APA's Eastern Division, provides small grant funding to worthwhile and innovative projects in philosophy. Past funded projects include conferences, workshops, podcasts, mentoring programs, and outreach efforts.

Meeting Registration and Hotel Discounts

APA members receive discounted registration and hotel rates for the three annual divisional meetings.
