Description: The journal was founded in 1908 by the "Friends of the Kunsthistorisches Institut" as a multilingual academic forum for the institute's collaborators as well as art historians in general. Its annual publication began with volume XV in 1971, when the "Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz" itself became the journal's editor. At present the Mitteilungen appears once a year. Each volume consists of three issues, which publish the results of current research conducted by resident and guest scholars as well as external specialists within the broad field of the history of the visual arts in Italy from the Middle Ages to the present. With respect to the international character of the scholarly community making use of the institute, articles are published in the authors' preferred languages — mainly German, Italian, English, French and Spanish — and each is appended with a summary in Italian or German.

Moving Wall

The "moving wall" represents the time period between the last issue available in JSTOR and the most recently published issue of a journal. Moving walls are generally represented in years. In rare instances, a publisher has elected to have a "zero" moving wall, so their current issues are available in JSTOR shortly after publication.
Note: In calculating the moving wall, the current year is not counted.
For example, if the current year is 2008 and a journal has a 5 year moving wall, articles from the year 2002 are available.
