Specific Objectives and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Scrum Master are:

 

  • Supporting multiple agile teams as a Servant Leader - removing obstacles that inhibit productivity and enabling continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring teams benefit from key Scrum ceremonies (Planning, Daily Stand-Ups, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, etc.), by being an excellent facilitator and consistent innovator.
  • Providing data and insights that enable teams to  improve consistently team performance and productivity and refine their processes.
  • Championing the adoption and constant evolution of software development tactics (e.g., Test Driven Development), that help teams increase effectiveness in an agile framework.
  • Helping teams and product owners build, understand, and consistently groom product backlogs.
  • Keeping our agile practice fresh by injecting new ideas and rejecting dogma.
  • Being an superb communicator of issues, accomplishments, progress, needs, etc., both inside the team and out.
  • Mastering the tools and techniques necessary to ensure the success of the teams.
  • Fostering outstanding collaboration and teamwork by understanding team dynamics and facilitating effective team interaction; raising productivity, preventing and addressing issues.
  • Providing value to your teams by understanding the work they do.

Skills, Experience, and Characteristics
  • A team player who leads by example and does not shy away from any task that can help the team.
  • A problem solver who helps the team to identify conflicting priorities and then frames and escalates issues quickly.
  • A trustworthy teammate who can be counted on to execute and deliver on what has been promised.
  • A leader who inspires and motivates teams and effectively handled stressful situations; and resolves conflicts by encouraging constructive and respectful debate.
  • An outstanding communicator who conveys information quickly and clearly and, is easily understood.
  • BS/BA in computer science, business, information science or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience functioning as a Scrum Master on mid to large-scale product and systems development projects.
  • Scrum Master Certification required; Certified Scrum Professional desired.
  • Experience with full web development cycle and SDLC.
  • Experience with Scrum tracking software desirable.
