USER RESEARCHER

Your Role

As part of the User Research team, you will partner with the User Research Manager and the Research Recruiter to enhance organizational knowledge of the existing and future JSTOR user base. This team provides insights that lead to deeply engaging and delightful products. This role works extensively with Product Managers, UX Architects, and Developers within Discovery teams to test and validate new and existing product concepts. The User Researcher guides teams to define research goals, choose appropriate methodologies, plan, execute, and evaluate research studies.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create tests to validate various product hypothesis, utilizing a broad range of methods (including in-depth interview, survey, prototype testing, usability, observational, A/B, card sort, click test, etc.);
  • Work with Product, UX, and the Research team to prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced changing environment;
  • Support research skill development of Discovery team members;
  • Work across several Agile teams as an integrated member of the team;
  • Work closely with the Analytics team on cross-department research projects;
  • Being alert to ongoing developments in the UX research field regarding new and improved testing methodologies;
  • Help run and maintain an in-house usability lab;
  • Partner with the User Research Recruiter to identify, target, and utilize appropriate study participants;
  • Maintain and update research resources and tools for team use.

 

Skills and Qualifications
  • Must have 2 plus years of experience in user-centered research and evaluation.
  • Experience with a varied set of research methods including user interview, survey, A/B, and ethnography.
  • Familiarity with common online research and survey tools such as;  Optimal Workshop and Ethnio.
  • Degree in Social Sciences, HCI, or related field (Bachelor’s required, Master’s preferred).
  • Ability to drive all aspects of research from planning to execution and communicate insights.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with an ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions.
  • Outstanding analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in an Agile environment (highly desirable).
