Specific Objectives and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Senior Quality Assurance Engineer are:

  • Responsible for automation and execution of testing for ITHAKA products/applications.
  • Design and implement test automation frameworks using a programming language with Cucumber.
  • Perform user story validation including the use of exploratory test methodologies.
  • Interface closely with engineers to ensure applications are designed to be testable while ensuring tags, object ID’s, component and page name standards are in place.
  • Ensure that automation follows a consistent, maintainable, and extendable architecture.
  • Run automation suites and evaluate results as builds are deployed to the test environment, ensuring bug reports are submitted and tracked in accordance with unit procedures.
  • Identify and clearly document errors and inconsistencies in the functionality, usability and performance of the software using defect tracking tools.
  • Clearly communicate test activities, escalation of problems, improvement opportunities and results in oral and written methods for a diverse audience.
  • Adhere to agile methodologies while fostering collaboration and continuous improvements on your scrum team.

Skills, Experience, and Characteristics

Your Role

You understand which UX/Design principles to employ for the production of projects that delight users and reach the target audience. You have enough programming prowess to know what’s feasible across all interactive platforms and how to lead a team of user experience and design staff to ensure high-quality execution.

Your Role

As a Product & Application Support Specialist, you will serve as a conduit between our external consumers (end-users, librarians, publishers, societies, and partners) and the Product Teams at ITHAKA. You will also serve as a technical liaison between the Website Support department and Product Teams, facilitating technical conversations to make connections with consumer impacts. You will serve as Tier 2 support personnel on behalf of all ITHAKA products and services, conducting investigations on behalf of developers and learning both the infrastructure and coding languages deployed by ITHAKA. You will be in a growth position, seeking to develop tools and processes to streamline routine tasks and to be able to triage, and even solve, some existing issues in the code itself.

The Role

You will join our publisher relations team that supports a large, high-profile, and international base of more than 1,100 academic publishers. Main responsibilities include:

 

  • Support the programs & services team with the implementation of all programs, services, and account management.
  • Process components of publisher agreements and draft amendments and riders when necessary.
  • Respond to publisher and publisher-related user inquiries received through various sources (phone, email, customer relationship management system).
  • Assist in the execution of the publisher communications strategy, maintain publisher records in the CRM system, and manage general inbox for publisher requests.
  • Be an effective account manager for a subset of publishers and content providers.
  • Generate standard reports for publishers about their participation in JSTOR and for internal analysis. Facilitate access to content and usage statistics for publishers and create custom reports on request.
  • Liaise with Finance on all aspects related to publisher payments and invoices.
  • Coordinate with Marketing to ensure all publisher-related marketing materials and website information pages are up-to-date.  Manage advertising module on behalf of publishers.
  • Liaise with Content Management regarding the release of new content, and coordinate publisher communications with account managers.
  • Embark on research projects, involving academic content, publishers, institutions, and scholarly initiatives, as needed.
  • Provided general administrative responsibilities for the team, including filing, mailing, coordinating information packets, preparation for meetings and workshops, travel arrangements, creating meeting agendas and recording meeting minutes.  Work on special projects as needed.

  • College degree required.

Specific Objectives and Responsibilities

 

Research and analysis

 

  • Design and conduct mixed methods evaluations of higher education initiatives, including analyses based on attitudinal surveys, usage data, learning outcomes, and other sources.
  • Manage relationships with partner organizations and collaborators.
  • Oversee logistical aspects of research efforts, such as managing institutional review board processes, coordinating randomized trials, collecting and maintaining datasets, arranging interviews, and selecting and utilizing survey management and data analysis tools.
  • Conduct desk research utilizing secondary sources to address key research questions and develop background on the subject and existing research.

 

Reporting and communications

 

  • Design compelling mechanisms for tracking and presenting quantitative analysis.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations via written and oral presentations to staff and clients and at conferences and webinars.
  • Represent Ithaka S+R at conferences, networking events, and meetings with external partners.

 

Other

 

  • Organize and participate in activities to generate project ideas and discuss project strategy.
  • Work with the program director to develop proposals for potential projects and detailed plans for project work.

We launched the Educational Transformation program in 2015, and it is vulnerable to the growing pains common to new organizations finding their way.  Much of the Senior Researcher’s work will involve developing new projects in new areas, but we will also look to take advantage of well-defined opportunities that become available to us.  The Senior Researcher will need to be comfortable with both delineating project boundaries and working within (and improving upon) boundaries set by someone else.

Ithaka S+R is dedicated to ensuring that we manage those changes in ways that help more people learn what they need to know to lead more productive and rewarding lives. Ithaka S+R’s work is organized into two areas, our Educational Transformation program and our Library and Scholarly Communication program.

 

Team-members in our Educational Transformation program identify, verify, and assist in the deployment of strategies for improving learning outcomes and containing costs in higher education. Our team designs and carries out qualitative and quantitative studies of promising initiatives in technology-enhanced education, governance, student-learning assessment, and other areas that further these goals. We help partner organizations develop and implement evidence-based strategies that emerge from this research.

 

The Role

 

As an Analyst, you will work collaboratively on both research projects and consulting engagements in the Educational Transformation program. You will contribute to multiple concurrent projects with ambitious deadlines, in some cases serving as project lead responsible for high-quality, on-time completion. Working from our New York office, you will be an integral member of the Educational Transformation program, helping to shape the research agenda and take day-to-day responsibility for our most important projects. Our organization and this role will connect you with our wide network of higher education leaders and top researchers, will allow access to limited availability institutional sources of data, and give you the opportunity to play a significant role in analytical projects that are both cutting edge and highly influential.

 

Specific Objectives and Responsibilities

 

Research and analysis

  • Select appropriate research methods to suit diverse research and consulting projects constrained by timeline and/or budget factors.
  • Help to design and conduct quantitative research, including analyses based on attitudinal surveys, usage data, learning outcomes, and other sources, informed by appropriate demographic analysis and other data.
  • Provide logistical support for research efforts, such as managing institutional review board processes, coordinating randomized trials, collecting and maintaining datasets, arranging interviews, managing relationships with testing centers, and selecting and utilizing survey management and data analysis tools.
  • Conduct desk research exercises, utilizing secondary research sources such as market research data to address key research questions and inform our understanding of the community.

 

Reporting and communications

  • Design compelling mechanisms for tracking and presenting quantitative analysis.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations via written and oral presentations to staff and clients and at conferences and webinars.
  • Represent Ithaka S+R at conferences, networking events, and client engagements.

 

Other

  • Organize and participate in brainstorming sessions to generate ideas and discuss project strategy.
  • Work with program managers to develop proposals for potential clients and detailed plans for project work.
  • Maintain awareness of major community issues that may impact on our projects.
  • Some travel required for research, reporting, and representation purposes - approximately 10-15%.

 

Challenges you’ll overcome

 

We launched the Educational Transformation program in 2015, and it is vulnerable to the growing pains common to new organizations finding their way. The Analyst will need to be comfortable in a rapidly changing environment, balancing multiple active projects. You will be expected to learn quickly about complicated subjects with which you might not have previous experience, and be able to share what you’ve learned with others. 

 

Skills, Experience, and Characteristics

 

  • Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in a field including quantitative research methods training, with an excellent academic record. 
  • Experience with appropriate statistical software (e.g., SAS, STATA, SPSS, R).
  • Superior research, writing, proofreading, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research data into compelling analysis and accessible well-written reports and engaging presentations.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability. 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments concurrently, perform well under pressure, and meet deadlines, while ensuring acute attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Intellectual curiosity, especially with an interest in education policy.
  • Ability to work in our open, collaborative, team-oriented culture.
