CITY POPULATION – statistics, maps & charts
HELP & INFORMATION
Explanations – Requirements – Usage – Citations
Official censuses and estimations are mostly the basis of the population data presented on »City Population«; the definition of agglomerations is sometimes based on unofficial or own estimates. Please note that the data of such statistics are all of varying, and some of suspect accuracy. There are several reasons: the varying relevance and accuracy of the base data, the poor comparability of the definitions of agglomerations, errors in the projections, underenumerations and so on.
If population figures are depicted by an italic font, then they have a lower quality than the other numbers. Reasons may be (e.g.) that the value is based on own estimates or calculations, that the referred area has changed its extension, or that the given population figure has another status or currentness than the other figures in the same column; the reason is shown as tooltip. For non-central cities and towns that belong to an agglomeration, the name of the central city of the agglomeration is often given as a relative link in agglomeration columns.

USAGE OF TABLES, MAPS AND CHARTS
Clicking on table rows allows the presentation of the selected place in the map and provides further information and links (e.g. to Wikipedia and Google Maps). Clicking on column headings performs a dynamic sorting of the table content according to the selected column.
In addition to the statistics, which are presented on HTML pages, a map viewer shows the location and population of cities and administrative areas. Population figures can be visualized by an interactive chart viewer.
