Trump Son-In-Law In Bidding For Dodgers

A bid to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers by 31-year-old New York Observer owner and publisher Jared Kushner, a son-in-law of developer Donald J. Trump, has been advanced to the second round, according to a report published today.

Kushner’s bid had not previously surfaced publicly and was confirmed to the Los Angeles Times by a person familiar with the sale process who was not authorized to discuss it publicly.

Kushner is working with Aryeh Bourkoff, vice chairman of the Swiss global financial services firm UBS, The Times reported.

If Kushner’s bid is successful, he would be the youngest owner in Major League Baseball.

In 2009 Kushner married Trump’s daughter Ivanka, who joins two of her brothers in the boardroom segments on their father’s NBC series “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

Kushner’s bid is among at least nine to advance to the second round, according to The Times.

Separate groups led by former Los Angeles Laker Magic Johnson and developer Rick Caruso are among the others to also advance to the second round. Bids by billionaire hedge fund executive Steven Cohen, former Dodger owner Peter O’Malley and St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke also are believed to have advanced, as well as a joint bid between investor Stanley Gold and the family of the late Roy Disney, The Times reported last month.

Owner Frank McCourt and Major League Baseball reached an agreement Nov. 1 to a “court supervised process” to sell the team, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June.
