Superstar Rajinikanth's Kabali released worldwide on July 22, when the actor was in USA with his daughter Aishwaryaa. He returned India late on Sunday night and was welcomed by a cheering crowd of fans at the Chennai airport.
Fans all across the country celebrated as Rajinikanth's much awaited film Kabali released on Friday. In Kerala, the first show of Kabali was at 5 am and fans lined up outside theatres from 3 am in the morning. Chennai was the epicentre of excitement. It was much more of an event for fans in Chennai.
Rajinikanth fans all over the country enjoyed his film Kabali which released on Friday. "I like whatever Rajinikanth does - whether he is sitting, standing, crying or laughing," a fan told NDTV. Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar also watched Kabali at Aurora theatre in Mumbai. "Whenever Rajini sir's film releases, I come to Aurora theatre because there is a different type of Rajinikanth fan mania here," Mr Bhandarkar told NDTV.
"Rajinikanth is the world," said one passenger on the special Air Asia plane that flew the actor's fans from Bengaluru to Chennai. "Rajinikanth is my God," said another. Find out what is what like to fly Kabali class.

Fans gathered outside Mumbai's Aurora Theatre and performed pujas and conducted bike rallies. They were also spotted wearing shirts featuring Rajinikanth. "The movie is brilliantly awesome. It has emotions, fights and it has all those scenes which a Rajini fan expects. It has those super moments where every Rajini fan will start clapping and whistles loudly," a fan told NDTV.
"It's amazing. It's a Rajinikanth movie. It is a superstar movie," a fan told NDTV after watching the first day first show of Rajinikanth's Kabali in Kerala. Another fan, who watched the 5 am show said: "It's a great treat for Rajinikanth fans."
A Kabali-special plane by Air Asia ferried fans from different cities to Chennai on Friday, when the movie released. Air Asia CEO, Amar Abrol, said: "It's been amazing from the time we started and it's getting better and better. The tickets were sold out within two hours of us releasing them."
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar watched Rajinikanth's Kabali at the Aurora theatre in Mumbai on July 22. He said: "I stayed back because I have never seen this kind of a scenario outside a theatre anywhere else. This madness. People are so excited. And I am a very big fan of Rajinikanth. So I really like to watch his films here."
In Chennai, some fans were left disappointed as they failed to acquire tickets for a show of Kabali on the opening day of Rajinikanth's new film. "They are doing business in the name of Rajinikanth," an angry fan said outside Chennai's Satyam theatre.
Rajinikanth's Kabali is also being celebrated in London. A group of Rajini fans from London said that people are very keen to watch the first day first show even though it is a weekday. "I have been watching the first day first shows of his films since 1990," a fan said.
