Study Abroad

A study-abroad experience challenges students to gain a heightened awareness and understanding of the world. Traveling to another country can be an enriching and eye-opening journey in which learning extends beyond the classroom and provides students with new ways of thinking about intercultural understanding.

Approximately 57 percent of Georgetown’s undergraduates study abroad in university-supported programs during their academic career. Students can participate in more than 120 programs in 40 different countries. The majority study abroad for a semester, but other students take advantage of full-year programs and an increasing number are enrolling in faculty-led summer programs. In addition, the university offers unique programs at the School of Foreign Service Qatar campus as well as the Georgetown-owned Villa Le Balze in Fiesole, Italy, and the McGhee Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies in Alanya, Turkey.

Georgetown also offers diverse study abroad opportunities to students at the graduate level. All MBA students at the McDonough School of Business participate in a Global Residency program, a unique immersion in international business practice. Graduate programs at the McCourt School of Public Policy and the School of Foreign Service also offer opportunities for study and research abroad. Law students have the opportunity to study at Georgetown’s Center for Transnational Legal Studies in London, and at other locations around the world. Students at the School of Medicine can choose from several overseas study programs.
