Service and community engagement are a way of life at Georgetown. They speak to the university’s mission and the Jesuit tradition of women and men for others. We encourage our students to become active participants in civil life, and we foster an environment that prizes social justice, service and community-based learning.
COMMUNITY-BASED LEARNING
The university offers community-based learning opportunities across all disciplines and schools, allowing students to participate in academic research and coursework with disadvantaged and underserved groups in an effort to meet their community-defined needs.
OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE
With well over 100 university-sponsored service programs and opportunities, Georgetown students, faculty and staff address some of today's most pressing issues facing local, national and international communities. Service projects and initiatives at the university range from tutoring disadvantaged children in math and reading to offering pro bono legal services and health care in the District of Columbia’s most underserved neighborhoods.
ENGAGED ALUMNI
A large number of Georgetown graduates enter service-oriented careers in nonprofit management, humanitarian relief, education and government service. Our graduates are among the most represented groups in service programs such as the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Teach for America and the Peace Corps.
