Our research centers, programs and institutes explore a diverse range of issues – from the science of drug discovery to dialogue on religious identity – making us a community devoted to understanding and improving the world around us.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching classifies Georgetown as a Very High Research Activity (RU/VH) University. This classification reflects our commitment to an intellectual environment that is conducive to the discovery and communication of new knowledge.

Our leading research-focused programs include the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, the Georgetown State-Federal Climate Resource Center, the Institute for Soft Matter Synthesis and Metrology and the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs.
Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) – our largest research center – is home to more than 400 scientists working on basic and clinical research projects and 300 active clinical trials. These researchers focus specifically on cancer, neuroscience, child health and development and global health.
