Georgetown University's Veterans Office serves military connected students as they apply to, attend and advance beyond Georgetown. The Veterans Office connects military students with the resources they need to successfully transition from combat to classroom to career. Our office serves as a liaison and advisor to ensure prospective and current military students receive accurate and comprehensive information around admissions, finances, academic support, career networking, and support services.

2017 Military Friendly® School Designation
Georgetown University is proud to announce our designation as a 2017 Military Friendly® School designated by Victory Media Inc. Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from Victory Media’s proprietary survey. More than 1,600 schools participated in the 2017 survey; 1,160 were awarded with the designation. Ratings methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Victory Media with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment, Persistence (Degree Advancement or Transfer) and Loan Default rates for all students and, specifically, for military students. Four Block Collaboration with Georgetown University
The Veterans Office is thrilled to announce that Georgetown University and Four Block has formalized a collaboration to support military-connected students at Georgetown University. Throughout the Fall 2016 semester, a career transitioning expert will host office hours on the Main Campus and the School of Continuing Studies to provide one-on-one counseling with military-connected students looking to advance in their careers. Georgetown University Military Alumni Database
The Veterans Office is launching a Georgetown University Military Alumni Database to keep you updated on programs and initiatives happening on campus. Our office understands that your inboxes receive heavy traffic already, so communication will be limited. Your contact information will not be shared with third parties without your consent. In addition, if you are interested in mentoring current military students, you can indicate on the form this interest and our office will be able to connect you with current students who are interested in similar career fields. The form is structured that you can edit your information if your contact information or employers changes.
Benefit Request Forms (BRF)
The Spring 2017 Benefit Request Form (BRF) is now available for students enrolled in degree programs on the Main Campus and the School of Continuing Studies. The BRF is required for students who have finalized their Spring 2017 registration and would like to receive eligible VA education benefits for the semester.
The Fall 2016 Benefit Request Form is still available for students enrolled in the Fall 2016 term.

Veterans Day Ceremony Keynote
On November 10, 2016, Georgetown University held its Veterans Day ceremony to honor , reflect, and celebrate the veteran community at Georgetown. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Readiness) and Georgetown Alumnus, Daniel Feehan (SFS '05), shared his remarks on how Georgetown University and the military are examples of unity and how we as a nation have the responsibility to serve in our own ways to enhance the United States. Tech Qualled
Georgetown University Alumunus, Justin Ossola (MBA '13), co-founded Tech Qualled which is a 9-week program designed to train and place military veterans in the high tech industry. Justin is featured in Channelnomics where he discusses how his personal transition journey has empowered him to support other veterans as they transition from the military into the civilian sector.
Defense Entrepreneurs Forum
The Defense Entrepreneurs Forum (DEF) held their annual conference in Chicago, IL in October 2016. DEF is an organization designed to build a community of defense leaders and create a space to bring innovation and connect leaders to enhance the defense ecosystem. At the annual conference, three Military Hoyas gave presentations: Jon Gillis (COL '13), Jim Perkins (MBA '16), and Miriam Krieger (GSAS). Georgetown veterans are leading the way in innovation. This is an excellent cross section of our veterans ranging from service in the military, diverse backgrounds, and degree programs at Georgetown.
2016 Tillman Scholars
Congratulations to incoming Military Hoyas, Jeremy Marx (School of Medicine) and Ashley Nicolas (Law) who have been selected into the 2016 class of Tillman Scholars! The Pat Tillman Foundation was established to honor Pat Tillman, an NFL player for the Arizona Cardinals who later served in the U.S. Army and was killed in action. Scholars are selected based on academic success and dedication to service. Warrior Scholar Project
Georgetown University is collaborating with the Warrior-Scholar Project for the second year to offer a week-long bootcamp for veterans pursuing a higher education degree at a 4-year institution. The Veterans Office is honored to support Warrior-Scholar Project to provide veterans the tools to apply and be successful academically, personally, and professionally. Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Recipient
Ben Brooks, SFS '16, is a dependent of a U.S. Marine and is receiving a scholarship from the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. Ben was featured in the Washington Post in an article highlighting how the Marine Corps Scholarship allowed him to excel as a student and give back to the community.
Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs at Georgetown University
Secretary Robert McDonald visited Georgetown University on January 29, 2016 to give a presentation on "Values Based Leadership." Secretary McDonald shared his experiences that help frame the key points he believes makes an effective leader. Faculty Publications
School of Medicine's professor, Dr. Joel Kupersmith, co-authored with the Brookings Institution's Michael O'Hanlon the Gulf War Illness 25 Years After Desert Storm. After a June 2016 symposium co-hosted by the Brookings Institution and Georgetown University Medical Center, the Health Affairs Blog published highlights about the current attitudes, research, and proposed next steps to understand and care for veterans from the Gulf War era.
School of Medicine's professor, Dr. Susan Okie published TBI's Long-Term Follow-up—Slow Progress in Science and Recovery in the New England Journal of Medicine. The publication details personal journeys of two U.S. Army veterans through the years when they did and did not have medical care.
Sebastian Junger released a book called Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging, which delves into the transition process from the military into the civilian world. Georgetown University Student Veterans Association's (GUSVA) faculty advisor, Dr. Barbara Mujica recently reviewed the book which was published with the Washington Independent Review of Bookshttp://www.washingtonindependentreviewofbooks.com/.
