Bridges Not Walls: anti-Trump protesters have dropped banners on London's bridges
Kristian Buus

The day has finally come for Donald Trump to be sworn in as the new President of the United States. It's been one of the most controversial US elections in history, what with scandals over 'locker room chat', email servers, and Trump's promise to build an 'impenetrable, physical, tall, powerful, beautiful, southern border wall' along the US-Mexico border.

A group of protesters – Bridges Not Walls – have responded by organising a demonstration today asking people to drop banners with messages of 'solidarity and common humanity' on bridges across the world, with more than 150 banner drops in the UK.

The London protest kicked off by dropping a 25-metre 'Bridges Not Walls' banner from Tower Bridge this morning, and activists have followed suit on every major bridge in London, including Tower Bridge, London Bridge and Waterloo Bridge. The protest has been a collaborative project from feminist, environmental, civil rights and anti-racist groups.

The twisted banner in the top photo (made by The Global Women's Strike) reads: DUMP TRUMP. NO SEXISM, RACISM, POVERTY. We will be on the Women's March in London tomorrow, Saturday 21st Jan, because this march is women led and represents all sectors of the movement for change. We march to say NO TRUMP and to demand a living wage for mothers and other carers. This is a march for everyone, meeting at 12noon at Grosvenor Square, www.globalwomensstrike.net.

@Kathy W so you are prepared to go out and protest the election of a man across the Atlantic in another country who has no direct effect on the women in this country, and yet you haven't protested at all about all the grooming gang scandals that have been happening in this country that have directly affected and ruined the lives of many fellow women??..... or is that too sensitive and politically incorrect for you to protest against so best swept under the carpet?
