Description: The Kornet is a long range anti-tank missile featuring a laser beam riding with Semi-Automatic Command to Line-Of-Sight (SACLOS) guidance. It was designed to engage ERA-protected (Explosive Reactive Armor) Main Battle Tanks (MBT) and fortifications replacing the Konkurs anti-tank weapon system in the Russian Army. It is less vulnerable to countermeasures than previous anti-tank weapon systems fielded in the Soviet Union. The Kornet long range anti-tank missile was deployed with the Russian Army replacing the Konkurs as well as other ATGM systems beginning in 1994. It is available for export under the Kornet-E designation.
The Kornet long range anti-tank weapon system has been designed to be installed on ground vehicles. It also can be operated by dismounted infantry. The Kornet launch unit with a thermal sight weighs approximately 37 (26+11) kg while the Kornet wooden round weighs 29 kg. Its impressive tandem hollow charge warhead is able to destroy any existing MBT independently of the angle of approach. An optional thermobaric warhead can effectively destroy fortifications, soft-skinned targets, and missile launchers.
