Historical Society of Washington, D.C.

Publisher Description

The Historical Society of Washington, D.C., is a community-supported educational and research organization that collects, interprets, and shares the history of our nation's capital city. Founded in 1894, it serves a diverse audience through its collections, public programs, exhibitions, and publications.

Since its founding, the Historical Society has published articles about the people and events in the city's past and present. The Records of the Columbia Historical Society (1894-1989), published every year until 1922 and thereafter every two or three years,  remain one of the best collections of information on the history of Washington, D.C.

Washington History (1989-present) is the only scholarly journal devoted exclusively to the history of the nation's capital. Written and edited by distinguished historians and beautifully illustrated with fine and often rare images of the city, the biannual publication interprets the stories of people and places that shaped the past.
