Kate Wittenberg is the Managing Director of Portico. Previously, Kate served as Project Director, Client and Partnership Development for Ithaka S+R, where her innovative work with libraries and publishers helped to develop resources, products, and services that enabled these communities to grow as vibrant digital organizations while remaining true to their core missions.

Kate brings a deep understanding of issues at the intersection of digital technologies, academic libraries, and scholarly publishing to Portico. She spent most of her career at Columbia, where she was the Editor-in-Chief of Columbia University Press until 1999, and went on to found and direct EPIC (the Electronic Publishing Initiative at Columbia) for the university. EPIC was a pioneering initiative in digital publishing, and a model publishing partnership for libraries, presses, and academic IT departments.

Jabin White oversees all content management at ITHAKA, including the loading and maintenance of all content in the Portico archive.

With a heavy background in XML theory and practice, White has spent most of his career evangelizing the benefits of markup languages and related technologies, including content management, workflow enhancements, and authoring tools.

Prior to joining ITHAKA, White served as Director of Strategic Content at Wolters Kluwer Health’s Professional & Education (P&E) Division, Vice President, STM Sales for Scope eKnowledge Center, and VP of Product Development at Silverchair. He also spent five years as Executive Director of Electronic Production at Elsevier, serving the Health Sciences Division.

He is a graduate of Wake Forest University with a BA in history and has a Masters in Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University.

Bruce Heterick is VP, Outreach & Participation Services and has responsibility for outreach and access services on a global basis for Portico.

Bruce has spent over twenty years in the higher education and library communities. He was an application developer at Virginia Tech before joining VTLS in 1988. Bruce held senior management positions at The Faxon Company and Blackwells, and prior to joining JSTOR in 1999, was executive director of SunGard SCT’s higher education consulting practice.

Bruce has written and presented extensively on information management issues, and is active in the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), EDUCAUSE, and the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), where he is currently serving on the Board of Directors.

He holds a B.S. in Management from Virginia Tech, and a M.B.A. from the Pamplin School at Virginia Tech.

Ken DiFiore is the Director of Library Relations. Since 2005, Ken has led the global outreach program for the Portico digital preservation service. In this role, he conducts outreach and educational programs to the library community. Ken has been a library professional for more than twenty years. A former chemistry librarian, he also spent ten years in the software industry promoting digital archiving products to academic and special libraries. He holds a Master of Library & information Studies degree from Rutgers University and Master of Science degree in Chemistry from Binghamton University.

Amy J. Kirchhoff has been the Archive Service Product Manager for Portico since 2006. She is responsible for creation and execution of archival policy and oversees operation and development of the Portico website. Prior to her work at Portico, Amy was director of technology for JSTOR and also served as a member of the shared software development group at ITHAKA. She has published articles on Portico’s preservation methodology and policies in several publications including most recently Learned Publishing and The Serials Librarian.

Stephanie Orphan is responsible for maintaining and expanding publisher participation in the Portico preservation service to ensure ongoing growth and sustainability of the Portico archive. She joined Portico as publisher content coordinator in 2007 and brings a strong understanding of publishing platforms, metadata, and packaging formats to her role as Director of Publisher Relations, as well as significant relationship management experience.
Stephanie came to Portico from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), where she was editor in chief of College and Research Libraries News and web services manager, responsible for the ACRL web site and e-learning program.

She holds a master of science in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master of arts in English literature from the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee.
