I loved the Danny Dunn books when I was a boy, and checked them out of the library and reread them over and over

+Coyoty Wright The old man says that Bran won't turn out to be an old man in a tree. Could be lying, of course.

Related: We just watched the movie "Predestination."

Dragons are why the world of Game of Thrones has remained stuck in the middle ages for thousands of years.

Bronn is the Keith Richards of Westeros

And the Sand Snakes can't die soon enough for me. I don't care about the whole Dorne storyline. Every minute they're on the screen is wasted.

I feel the same way. She's a terrible actress with a lame ass character. I was so happy when she got shanked.

Nope, says reddit.com/r/communism101.

It has several key characteristics of Communism, most notably elimination of property, profit, business and money. Replicators handle “to each according to his ability.”

But the Federation fails one characteristic of Communism: Eliminating government.

Star Trek under Roddenberry hated business, particularly in “The Next Generation.” But Roddenberry himself was a businessman. As portrayed in These Are the Voyages, http://amzn.to/1YiuJXx Roddenberry’s ego made him self-sabotaging. He blamed others, and was reluctant to share credit and profit. He was kind of a Ferengi, actually.

The three kinds of movie time travel in movies. Books, too. Love this.

I remember back in the days of Usenet, there was a long, meaty, nerdtastic discussion of all the various braided timelines of Back to the Future. Like, for example, what happened to the Marty who grew up with the well-adjusted family in the timeline that sprang into being at the end of BttFI? Did he connect with Doc Brown, given that he already had a good father at home?

Heinlein and Star Trek in a single headline? The ultimate clickbait for me.

I recently came across a definition of socialism (which I can no longer put my fingers on), that said it's an economic system where the means of production is owned by the the workers, with the state as their proxy. It said that socialism is a stepping-stone on the way to Communism, when goods would be so plentiful that there would be no need to pay for them. And I said to myself, holy crap, that's Star Trek.

Star Trek is a Communist society where everybody worthwhile serves in the military and wears a uniform.
Roddenberry's Star Trek was "above all, a critique of Robert Heinlein"
