Discovery & Linking: Quick Reference Guides

Quick Reference Guides to Discovery Products

Brian Larsen

If you manage an Indexed Discovery Service, you can use our Quick Reference Guides (found below) to help you best configure it. Our guides should help you make sense of your discovery service and allow you to surface all kinds of content, including articles, books and pamphlets on JSTOR.  If these products aren't correctly configured, users can miss out on crucial stuff in your library.

We’ve worked with index discovery service providers (e.g. Ex Libris, EBSCO, OCLC, and ProQuest) to better understand: (1) how the content available on the JSTOR platform is represented in these services; (2) what the drivers of relevancy are in these systems and (3) what steps are required by libraries to ensure JSTOR is discoverable in these services.  We were a little alarmed at the number of institutions that were finding only a small percentage of their licensed JSTOR content discoverable in these systems.

In summary: Make sure you set your services up correctly. Call us if you need help and we can point you to the right place.
