2017 National Magazine Awards

The winners of the 2017 National Magazines Awards for Print and Digital Media were announced today at the Ellie Awards Annual Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Mother Jones was named Magazine of the Year for having “found new ways to engage audiences and continue its practice of fearless journalism."  The awards presentation was hosted by Lester Holt, anchor of "NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt" and “Dateline NBC.”

2016 National Magazine Awards

The winners of the 2016 National Magazines Awards for Print and Digital Media were announced tonight at the Ellie Awards Annual Dinner at the Grand Hyatt New York. The Atlantic was named Magazine of the Year for “advancing the national debate on issues of critical importance.” Also honored was the former editor in chief of Better Homes and Gardens, Gayle Goodson Butler, to whom ASME presented the Magazine Editors’ Hall of Fame Award. The dinner was hosted by Tamron Hall, national correspondent for NBC News and day-side anchor for MSNBC.

2014 National Magazine Awards

The winners of the 2014 National Magazine Awards were announced tonight at the annual awards presentation at the New York Marriott Marquis. Fast Company was named Magazine of the Year. Bon Appétit and National Geographic both won two awards; New York won three; and The New Yorker won four. Two magazines won National Magazine Awards for the first time: Cosmopolitan, which debuted as a women’s magazine in 1965, and Modern Farmer, founded just last year.

2013 National Magazine Awards

The winners of the 2013 National Magazine Awards were announced at the annual awards presentation on May 2, at the New York Marriott Marquis. New York was named Magazine of the Year. The Atlantic, New York and Texas Monthly each won two awards; National Geographic won four, including two for digital media. Two digital-only publications also won awards: Pitchfork for General Excellence, Digital Media, and Slate for Columns and Commentary.

2012 National Magazine Awards for Digital Media

The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism announced the winners of the 2012 National Magazine Awards for Digital Media. More than 300 editors, publishers and guests attended a lunch at the Grand Hyatt New York to honor the 55 finalists and 11 winners. The lunch was hosted by Larry Hackett, managing editor of People and ASME president, and Lucy Danziger, editor-in-chief of SELF and ASME secretary.

2012 National Magazine Awards

The winners of the 2012 National Magazine Awards were announced at the annual awards presentation at the New York Marriott Marquis. TIME was named Magazine of the Year. New York won three awards, and The New Yorker won two. Sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, the National Magazine Awards are the preeminent awards for magazine journalism.

2009 National Magazine Awards

The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) presented the industry’s most prestigious editorial honors tonight at the 44th annual National Magazine Awards. The gala at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City gathered editors, publishers, industry professionals and guests to celebrate 26 winners across 20 categories. Named after the Alexander Calder stabile “Elephant,” the 2009 “Ellies” drew an impressive 1,707 entries from more than 350 print and online magazines.

2008 National Magazine Awards

The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) bestowed the industry’s most prestigious editorial honors tonight at the 43rd annual National Magazine Awards. The black-tie gala at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City gathered more than 1,000 editors, publishers, industry professionals and guests to celebrate 25 winners across 20 categories. Named after the Alexander Calder stabile “Elephant,” the 2008 “Ellies” drew a record-setting 1,964 entries from 333 print and online magazines.

2007 National Magazine Awards

The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) this evening presented the 2007 National Magazine Awards, the industrys most prestigious editorial honor, at a gala black-tie event. The 42nd annual award ceremony, held at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Broadway at 60th Street, in New York City, was attended by more than 1,000 editors, publishers, industry professionals and guests.

2006 National Magazine Awards

The 41st anniversary celebration of ASME's National Magazine Awards took place May 9, at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. It was attended by more than 1,000 editors, publishers, industry professionals and guest. The Ellies (named after the Alexander Calder Stabile Elephant, which is ASME's symbol of the award) were presented to 14 print and online magazines across 22 categories.
