The new Apple #iPhone7 launches today! We’d love it more if Apple could tell us if it contains child labour: http://amn.st/6263Bf5MF
- The vicissitudes which continue to plague children inside of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including their being routinely and wantonly subjugated to rampant and widespread child labour, are, if one were to be perfectly honest merely symptoms of a disease. And the disease is the shocking and ongoing misrule of a nation that contains enough unexploited mineral wealth, to, on paper at least, make it a first world nation. And so, after the fact handwringing, viz wondering out loud whether your apple phone was manufactured off the back of a child cobalt miner in the Congo, well that just seems like a bit of a red herring ploy. Especially when one considers the fact that the more urgent question that demands pondering right now, the more germane matter that needs to be addressed other than the fatuous gimmickry of feign moral outrage at the dastardly news that Congolese child labour goes into the manufacturing of your fancy phone, the matter at hand I'm afraid, is exactly how does a government decree universally free primary school education, and then woefully fail to fully avail the necessary resources that surely are required to keep these Congolese children in school to full term and ultimately to completion of their education, and thus hopefully to give them a better chance at a life that does not lead to a perpetual "mining career."39w
