The Role

Whether working on Labs or other ITHAKA products, you will be responsible for developing original creative concepts, prototypes or marketing material that align with organizational brand and mission. In this role, you will not only think conceptually, but be comfortable with rapid development cycles and able to iterate designs as feedback is received.  JSTOR Labs projects demonstrate new ways to discover and work with the rich collection of academic journals, books and primary sources in the extensive JSTOR digital library and beyond.

 

You will work with team members located in Ann Arbor and New York City. This position is based in Ann Arbor or New York but requires spending up to 20% of your time traveling to our other offices.

 

What We Do

You’ll join the ITHAKA UX and Design team who, with colleagues in Marketing, Communications and other units, is responsible for creating meaningful experiences for users of ITHAKA sites, services and products. We produce innovative campaigns and social media, communications across channels, and help to create, launch, and expand new products and offerings. JSTOR Labs is one of ITHAKA’s product teams that strives to help JSTOR users by developing and testing prototypes, concepts, and presentation of new products and features. What You’ll Do

As a Web/Visual Designer you will use color, typography, and interaction design to solve design challenges for JSTOR Labs and ITHAKA. You will collaborate with Marketing, User Experience and Software Development to deliver brand and design styles, approaches, and concepts that are innovative and approachable. You will consult metrics, testing, and user research to inform your interactive designs. You will report to the Director of UX/Design, and work on projects with the JSTOR Labs Director in New York City, as well as other ITHAKA stakeholders.

 

Your Qualifications and Skills
  • You have 5 to 7 years of web, mobile and marketing experience, including print design and can share portfolio examples.
  • You are fluent in the latest Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch and other design and UI software and prototype tools.
  • You have an understanding of front end code (HTML/CSS), web standards.
  • Your portfolio demonstrates an impeccable sensibility for color and composition, commensurate with an expert-level web design specialist.
  • You can clearly articulate design decisions and gracefully handle feedback and conciliation.
  • You understand and can create data visualization and infographic presentations.
  • You collaborate well with teams, but possess the initiative and professionalism to work independently.
  • You exhibit a user-centric design approach and think of data and testing as allies in creating the best possible user experience.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity for a strategic individual, to join a dynamic and growing organization that is having a transformative impact on the scholarly communications landscape. The Institutional Participation Coordinator will be based in the New York office and will report to the Manager, Institutional Participation Coordinators.

 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties: 
  • Supporting the outreach activities of the regional team, working in coordination with the Director, Institutional Participation & Strategic Partnerships in the region, including identifying new outreach opportunities and executing retention and renewal strategies;
  • Proactively identifying new opportunities and managing day-to-day interactions, including outreach and post-outreach activities with institutions in the region; this includes educating new participants about JSTOR and Portico’s mission, researching participant needs, and assisting with the process of licensing new participants that are located within the region.  

 

Some overnight travel (approximately 5%) will be required, including attending designated conferences, meetings, events per the discretion of the Director.

 

At the coordination of the Director, manage institutional participation interest within the region for all products and services and all communities (e.g. higher education, government, and non-profits, corporate and for-profit, public libraries) by:

 

  • Proactive outreach to higher education institutions including: webinars, email, and phone outreach;
  • Responding, via email and telephone, to participation inquiries received from various sources (ITHAKA website, phone, email);
  • Communicate professionally and proficiently in region appropriate language (e.g. French, Spanish or Italian);
  • Tracking contact information and "pipeline" status in Sugar CRM (customer relationship management);
  • Guiding interested institutions through the participation process;
  • Managing the processing of all license agreements;
  • Facilitating various communications (mail and email) to participants and potential participants, including new collection (product) announcements, specific and targeted campaigns, conference and other meeting announcements;
  • Helping the Director to coordinate and prepare forums and site visits for their region;
  • Working with Director to analyze and interpret forecast data to formulate and support strategic outreach planning in the region;
  • Coordinating with Analytics team to provide and present usage data to participants.

 

Required Qualifications:

The Ithaka International Associate Director, IPSP in Western Europe will work remotely, likely from a home office location in Western Europe, and will liaise with ITHAKA’s Associate Vice President, Institutional Participation and Strategic Partnerships, who is located in New York City.

 
The primary responsibilities of the Ithaka International Associate Director, Institutional Participation and Strategic Partnerships are:

 

1. Promotional and relationship development activities to facilitate mission-driven new participation in Western Europe, to help ITHAKA meet the participation expectation of the organization for JSTOR, Artstor and Portico;

Specific Objectives and Responsibilities

Promotional Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and enhance ITHAKA’s strategic relationships among leaders within the library and administration of participating institutions and consortia in the higher education community in Western Europe;
  • Communicate effectively with ITHAKA’s outreach and marketing teams to coordinate and direct activities in support of annual participation goals;
  • Advise on planning outreach strategies to facilitate participation growth consistent with ITHAKA’s strategic growth and sustainable objectives;

Our Manager of Foundation Relations will have responsibility for developing and managing our relationships with those foundations, working with ITHAKA’s leadership team. In this role, there will be a particular emphasis on working with Ithaka S+R, which generates a substantial portion of its annual revenue through grants. Once the projects are funded, the Manager will also manage the ongoing relationship with the foundations to ensure that ITHAKA meets all targets and reporting objectives. Success in this role will be determined by how well you: meet grant revenue goals jointly agreed to in advance by you and key stakeholders; diversify the organization’s revenue generated from foundation support, and; track and report on grants awarded. Your responsibility will be greatest for Ithaka S+R, which generates approximately half of its annual revenue through grants.

  • Develop a portfolio of viable foundations based upon your understanding of our strategic priorities and opportunities
  • Manage key relationships and partnerships with education leaders, foundation officers, and internal stakeholders
  • Manage the overall calendar for submitting grant proposals, setting cultivation activities and managing deliverables
  • Write grant reports and successfully document our progress against deliverables working in close collaboration with business and finance managers and the grant principal investigators

The Lead QA Engineer will direct and support the work of two senior QA engineers and will be expected to bring his or her domain knowledge to bear in directing that work.

 

Specific Objectives and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Lead Quality Assurance Engineer are:

 

Leadership

  • Serve as a core contributor to the continuous integration pipeline definition and implementation.
  • Serve as a team resource backup and Subject Matter Expert requiring in-depth knowledge of many applications and services.
  • As the developing system’s needs evolve, identify and implement automation infrastructure and framework modifications.

  • Clearly communicate test activities, escalation of problems, improvement opportunities and results in oral and written methods for a diverse audience.

Skills, Experience, and Characteristics 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in software testing; 3 years in web testing; 3 years developing automated test scripts in a professional software development environment; 2 years in an equivalent role.
  • Experience working in an agile environment where Behavior Driven Development (BDD) or Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD) practices are utilized.

The Role

 

As an Analyst, you will work collaboratively on both research projects and consulting engagements in the Educational Transformation Program. You will contribute to multiple concurrent projects with ambitious deadlines, in some cases serving as project lead responsible for high-quality, on-time completion. Working from our New York office, you will be an integral member of the Educational Transformation Program, helping to shape the research agenda and taking day-to-day responsibility for our most important projects. You will report to the Director of the Educational Transformation Program.

Specific Objectives and Responsibilities

 

Project Management 

 

  • Coordinate and track activities of numerous stakeholders across multiple institutions and propose ideas and strategies for improving internal and external processes. 
  • Design tools and resources to effectively distill and act on information gathered through regular communication with multiple stakeholders. 
  • Develop and maintain project plans and keep individuals, teams, and collaborators at all levels on track to meet deadlines.

 

Research and Analysis

 

  • Help to design and conduct qualitative research, including developing research plans, designing interview protocols, and synthesizing findings.
  • Provide logistical support for research efforts, such as collecting and maintaining data, arranging interviews, managing relationships with institutions, and utilizing survey management and data analysis tools.
  • Conduct desk research exercises, utilizing secondary research sources such as market research data to address key research questions and inform our understanding of the community.

 

Reporting and Communications

 

  • Write emails, memos, and briefs to clearly communicate concepts and processes to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design compelling mechanisms for tracking and presenting quantitative analysis.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations via written and oral presentations to staff and clients and at conferences and webinars.
  • Represent Ithaka S+R at convenings, networking events, and client engagements.

 

Other

 

  • Develop strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Organize and participate in brainstorming sessions to generate ideas and discuss project strategy.
  • Work with program managers to develop proposals for potential clients and detailed plans for project work.
  • Maintain awareness of major community issues that may impact on our projects.
  • Some travel required for research, reporting, and representation purposes - approximately 10-15%.

The major challenge you will face is managing complex projects that often require input from and engagement with numerous stakeholders who work at varying levels across multiple organizations. To do this well, you will need strong project management and communication skills. In addition, the Analyst must be comfortable in a rapidly changing environment, balancing multiple active projects.   • Experience with appropriate statistical software (e.g., SAS, STATA, SPSS, R) preferred, but not required.
