CÚCUTA / #KOLUMBIEN. Noch halten sich deutsche Medien zurück – doch die Welle millionenfacher Abwanderung aus Venezuela wird über kurz oder lang auch an Europa nicht spurlos vorüber ziehen. Es herrscht Untergangsstimmung am Südrand der Karibik. Und bis jetzt auch visafreier Reiseverkehr in die EU. Weitsichtige Familien kratzen ihr letztes Hab und Gut zusammen, um den Sprösslingen ihre Flugreise über den Atlantik zu bezahlen – solange es noch geht. Denn bisher ergießt sich der gesteuerte Hauptstrom von monatlich etwa 100.000 #Wirtschaftsflüchtlingen noch ins Nachbarland Kolumbien, und teils weiter gen Süden. Reisen ins Ungewisse, Menschenmassen ohne Perspektive. Südamerika nähert sich bald dem Zustand kollektiver Überforderung – 3 bis 4 Mio. Venezolaner sind bereits weg.

Noch vor 20 Jahren hätte es wohl niemand für möglich gehalten, dass das einst reichste Land südlich der USA, traditionell Ziel von Einwanderern, ausbluten würde wie ein geschlachtetes Tier. Mangelwirtschaft, Rekordinflation und Dauerrezession bestimmen den Alltag im „#Sozialismus des 21. Jahrhunderts“, den „der Kommandant“ #HugoChávez nach seinem Wahlsieg 1998 im Ölstaat einführte.

Überraschend ist es der sozialistischen Führung unter seinem Nachfolger #Maduro gelungen, die Macht in den vergangenen Monaten entscheidend zu konsolidieren ... zuletzt mit einer umstrittenen Präsidentenwahl Ende Mai.

Das Auffang- und Transitland Kolumbien (seit 31. Mai #NATO-Partner) steht derweil nach über 50 Jahren Bürgerkrieg selbst in schwierigen Umständen. Zum Fortgang des Friedensvertrags mit den linken FARC-Guerillas und dem Verhältnis zu Venezuela steht am Sonntag eine polarisierende, schicksalhafte Präsidentschaftswahl an: Der Konservative #IvánDuque (anti FARC & Maduro) und der Sozialist #GustavoPedro (pro -\\-) liefern sich ein Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen um die Nachfolge des umstrittenen (2016er) Friedensnobelpreisträgers #JuanManuelSantos, dessen Ausgang die Region nachhaltig beeinflussen wird.

( CÚCUTA / COLOMBIA. Still German media are keeping low profile – but that wave of millions of Venezuelans leaving their country won´t fail to leave its mark on Europe as well. Downfall mood at southern edge of the Caribbean. And until now even visa-free tourist traffic into the EU. Far-sighted families scramble up some of their last belongings in order to pay the air ticket above the Atlantic Ocean to their kids – as long it still is possible. Until now guided main stream of monthly ca. 100,000 economic #refugees continues flowing towards Colombia, the Western neighbour, partly proceeding southwards. Trips into the unknown, crowds without any good outlook. South America advances towards conditions of collective overextension – 3 to 4 million Venezuelans have left already.

Just 20 years ago probably nobody would have suspected the formerly richest country south of USA … traditionally destination for all kind of immigrants … bleeding to death like a slaughtered animal. Scarcity, inflation & recession are defining daily routine within „socialism of the 21st century“ which has been established in the petrostate by „commander“ Hugo Chávez after his 1998 election victory.

Surprisingly socialist government of successor Maduro succeeded consolidating power within recent months … finally by disputed presidential (re-)election end of May.

Colombia, detention and transit country … even global partner of NATO since 31st of May … is situated in difficult circumstances after more than 50 years of civil war. Concerning the peace agreement with the left-wing FARC guerilla – and relations to Venezuela – Colombians are facing a polarizing presidential election of destiny: Conservative Iván Duque (anti FARC & Maduro) and socialist Gustavo Pedro (pro -\\-) are battling each other in a head-to-head race for succeeding Juan Manuel Santos, the controversial Nobel Peace Prize winner of 2016. Results are going to permanently influence the region. )
