The Ministry of Manpower (MoM) is collecting data from private establishments to track salary transfers and delays using a new system under the Wage Protection Programme.

According to MoM, an initiative to track transfer of employee wages in their bank accounts has been there for some time. “It is a joint programme between MoM and the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) which monitors the transfer of employees’ wages in their bank accounts.”

Speaking to Muscat Daily , an official from MoM said, “The notice issued today [Wednesday] is to remind everyone that MoM is collecting data from private sector companies.”

It will help the ministry in ensuring that workers receive their wages on time to prevent any labour disputes, strikes, or interruption of work.

The electronic programme monitors bank accounts to ensure private sector workers are paid on time. MoM is running a trial phase of the programme and eventually every bank in Oman will be part of the scheme.
