EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in English from Yale University, 1968; Master's degree from Cambridge University, 1970, with a focus on economic history; and a Ph.D. in International Relations, 1974, from Cambridge University, where he was a Marshall Scholar.
CAREER: Published first book "Shattered Peace: The Origins of the Cold War and the National Security State" in 1977. Taught at Harvard Business School and Harvard's Kennedy School of Government before co-founding in 1983 what is now IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA), an energy consulting company. Published "The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power" in 1992; the book won a Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction. "The Prize" was made into an 8-hour miniseries aired on PBS. In September Yergin published "The Quest: Energy, Security and the Remaking of the Modern World."
