ABYEI, 29 July 2015[Gurtong]-
Alor Dou Al Beit said that the change of name follows the formation of the new administration by President Salva Kiir earlier this year.

“We don’t want to change just the name, but the region has its name like when we look at the States of South Sudan plus GPAA, each had their names based on their interest, he stressed.

“We changed the name to Abyei Special Administration Area from Abyei Administration Area because we are not sharing the region again with Sudan.”

However, during a visit to the West Kordofan State in March this year, the Sudanese President, Omer Hassan al-Bashir asserted that the contested Abyei area belongs to Sudan and will remain a Sudanese territory.

Bashir was speaking in an election rally in Al Foula the capital of the West Kordofan State, during his campaigns.
