About OUIHC
The Oxford University Ice Hockey Club, known as O.U.I.H.C. is home to the Men’s and Women’s Blues ice hockey teams of the University of Oxford. The Club is a student-run inclusive community of academic ice hockey players from Oxford and nearby institutions. Oxford University matriculated students on the Men’s and Women’s Blues squads participate in the near 200-year old tradition of representing Oxford in the Varsity Match against Cambridge University. Varsity Match players get the opportunity to earn the prestigious Oxford Blue for their performance. The first Varsity Match recorded was in 1900 (likely a bandy match) but the origins of the club likely go as far back as 1885. In 1921, the OUIHC was formed as an official University club – uniting all ice hockey players at Oxford. As in 1921, the values of inclusion and unity are still upheld by the OUIHC today. In addition the club honours the tradition of earning Oxford Blues in the Ice Hockey Varsity Match as all Blues sports of the University may do. A distinguished list of alumni have earned the ice hockey Blue.
