‘Oh, nothing, just updating my file of Things Jeff Bezos Is Working On That Also Sound Like Something a Super Villain Might Do.’
That’s from just one of the many Tuesday tweets suggesting that, even if his motives are all arguably benign, so much of what Jeff Bezos seems to do in his non-Amazon AMZN, +1.74% time makes him seem quite a lot like a comic-book villain.
And, in a sense, he is the whole package: the space exploration; the control of a globally influential media institution; the famous laugh; the baldness; the 500-foot-tall, thermal-powered 10,000-year clock embedded in a mountain.
Wait, what? That clock thing? Here’s Bezos himself talking about, and showcasing, it:
Installation has begun—500 ft tall, all mechanical, powered by day/night thermal cycles, synchronized at solar noon, a symbol for long-term thinking—the #10000YearClock is coming together thx to the genius of Danny Hillis, Zander Rose & the whole Clock team!
