The Polynational War Memorial

The Polynational War Memorial is an architectonic and conceptual proposal for a global war memorial to commemorate all who died in all wars since 1945, and for an organization that will work on a global level with education, research and diplomacy.

This website presents the concept and the proposal in detail, and information about the latest acheivements. It also includes a database with physical and online memorials, and articles about commemoration culture.

Notes on the Online Memorial Collection
posted: 2016-07-19| by: Jon Brunberg

When you’re contemplating the features and functions of contemporary war memorials, it’s almost impossible not to take the names of the killed into consideration. When I begun to work on the Polynational War Memorial project in 2004 I decided that I would follow that convention and make the names of all soldiers and civilians killed because of acts of war a fundamental part of the design.  And I started to gather all those link in a separate section called "The Online Memorial Collection". This article discuss the importance of names and numbers.

This summer's quite comprehensive refurbishing of this website is drawing to a close. It's been a big relief to be able to devote time to mend broken links, improve the code, squash a number of bugs and redesign parts of the site. But the project also reached a saddening milestone.

War Database Update Log 2017
posted: 2017-06-04 | Stockholm

The update of the war database has commenced and will continue for the month of June 2017. It will begin with battle-related fatalities from UCDP:s battle-related deaths dataset covering the wars of 2015. As usually updated figures regarding battle-deaths, one-sided violence and non-state conflicts will be published continuously, conflict-by-conflict, which makes the total number of deaths incomplete during the update period.
