The Brookings Board of Trustees is a governing body composed of distinguished individuals from a variety of backgrounds. The Board has fiduciary responsibility for the Institution’s leadership, integrity, financial health, and scholarly independence.

Our History »

The Brookings Institution traces its beginnings to 1916, when a group of leading reformers founded the Institute for Government Research (IGR), the first private organization devoted to analyzing public policy issues at the national level.

Annual Report »

Each year, Brookings produces an annual report highlighting our collective work and the impact it has had on the world. The annual report has, since 1983, also provided an opportunity for us to thank the generous donors whose financial support makes our work possible, while also demonstrating our commitment to transparency.

In the spirit of Brookings’s commitment to high-quality, independent research, we have commissioned works on major topics of public policy by distinguished authors, including Brookings scholars. The Brookings Essay is a multi-platform, long-form product that we hope will engage our audience in open dialogue and debate.

Brookings is pleased to launch the David M. Rubenstein Fellowship Program. The challenges facing the United States and the world require rigorous, innovative, evidence-based research that generate fresh thinking and innovative policy solutions.
