The command of the General People's Congress in support of legitimacy in Yemen said it supports the "popular uprising against Houthi militias and called on everyone to unite to deter the Iranian project in the country."
A statement issued by the party’s command welcomed a “new page” and voiced the importance of fighting until they achieve victory and resume the political process.
Clashes between Houthi militias and Ali Abdullah Saleh loyalists have been on since Wednesday and they escalated when Saleh called for a popular uprising against the Houthis.
The Saudi-led coalition in support of legitimacy in Yemen had voiced its support of the General People's Congress’ revolt against the Houthis in Sanaa and called on the legitimate government to open a new page with all political parties to form a national alliance to confront the Houthis whom it described as “the wing of the Iranian Persian project in Yemen.”
