  • Pakistan: Ensure Ahmadi Voting Rights

On June 28, 2018, Human Rights Watch published a press release entitled, “Pakistan: Ensure Ahmadi Voting Rights” (https://www.hrw.org/news/2018/06/28/pakistan-ensure-ahmadi-voting-rights). We regret that due to an editing error the press release reproduced passages without attribution in the law review article by Amjad Mahmood Khan, entitled, “Persecution of the Ahmadiyya Community in Pakistan: An Analysis Under International Law and International Relations,” published in the Harvard Human Rights Journal in 2003. Human Rights Watch cited this article in its 2005 report, “Breach of Faith: Persecution of the Ahmadiyya Community in Bangladesh,” but when the passage was reproduced for the June 28 press release the footnote was not included.

  • Human Rights Pushed Aside at Trump-Kim Summit

An earlier version of this dispatch incorrectly quoted US President Donald Trump as saying life in North Korea was “hell on earth” during a visit to Seoul. Rather, Trump was reported to say that life in North Korea was “a hell that no person deserves.”

  • Story on Alleged Killing of Russian Journalist in Kyiv

On May 30 Human Rights Watch posted a story commenting on the then-apparent killing on May 29 in Kyiv of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko. Later on May 30 we removed the story from our website when it was confirmed by authorities in Ukraine that security services had, with Mr Babchenko’s consent, staged the alleged-killing, and that Mr Babchenko is alive and had not been attacked in any way.

  • Saudi Arabia: Growing Crackdown on Women’s Rights Activists

Local state media outlets identified the long-time rights advocates Loujain al-Hathloul, Aziza al-Yousef, and Eman al-Nafjan, along with Mohammad al-Rabea, an activist, and Ibrahim al-Modaimeegh, a human rights lawyer, among those arrested. An earlier version of this news release incorrectly identified the source of this information.
