Job Description

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

Parents magazine seeks a dynamic, creative and hard-working Editorial Assistant to contribute across departments. This staffer—ideally someone with editorial intern or assistant experience—will be responsible for providing administrative support to the executive editor and senior content team. He/she will also have opportunity to:

pitch topics for all sections of the magazine, especially for our newsy Let’s Get Real section and our women’s health pages, develop reporting, writing and editing skills, brainstorm and assist with sharpening our brand voice in media presentations and market pitches, attend press previews, and do market research

 

II. Essential Job Functions

Provide administrative support crucial to running the day to day efforts of the Parents edit team: Update our edit calendars for editors and the marketing team, organize content for monthly reviews, create issue studies, collect product mentions, open mail, manage book submissions, maintain a mini-wall of layouts, collect art memos, update monthly slugs, and more.

Report, edit and write content for the magazine, such as health, development and gear sidebars and newsy trend items; oversee our popular Giggles column; write the table of content, plus more.

Assist executive editor, such as schedule meetings, create presentations, keep copy flow organized and current, do research, complete expense reports, and more support duties.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

Job or internship at magazine or web site preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Ability to conduct and transcribe interviews with experts

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Eager to learn new skills related to being part of a content organization

Proficiency with InCopy as well as social and digital analytic tools helpful.
