The Georgetown College advising deans are located in 303 Intercultural Center (first-year and sophomore students) and 108 White Gravenor (junior and senior students).
The Dean's Office
During a student’s first two years in the College, they are expected to meet with a member of the dean’s staff to discuss their intellectual interests and academic goals and to construct a preliminary, non-binding four-year plan. This provides an opportunity for students to explore the full range of curricular options available to them and to discuss possibilities such as study abroad.
The dean’s office also provides advising to students throughout their four years at Georgetown. Once students declare a major, they receive advising from both a dean and a faculty advisor in their department.
Students can use this section of the website to answer common advising questions, such as fulfilling core requirements, studying abroad, and updating AP/IB credits. Students can also learn about student resources, summer school, and pre-professional programs.
Faculty Advisors
All students are encouraged to establish close intellectual relationships with their faculty. Faculty advisors are assigned at the time of major declaration and guide students through all aspects of degree completion.
Students entering the College with declared majors in math, science, foreign language, and linguistics require specialized advice from the start of their degree and are assigned a faculty advisor during their first year.
Peer Advisors
Current students serve as peer advisors who are extremely helpful to new students during this transition period by sharing experiences, providing insight, and responding to questions and concerns.
Peer advisors contact incoming students over the summer to introduce themselves and answer questions and assist new students with the preregistration process. Peer advisors also work closely with the dean’s office and faculty advisors and maintain contact with students throughout the year.
