'They did surgery on a grape' is the weird meme that's your new obsession

In May, surgery was performed on a grape. A grape!  And for whatever reason, the internet is now delighting in this fact.

The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Australia used a grape to showcase the delicate and efficient surgical work that robots can perform.

The end result: sweet, sweet memes — and one surgically altered grape, I guess.

The "they did surgery on a grape" meme is probably one of the weirder memes to have surfaced in the past month or so. Each meme does little more than mention of surgery being performed on a grape, but in the most creative way possible.

People on Twitter have been crafting unique visuals, varied scenarios, and some have even altered their username's for the sake of crafting the perfect "they did surgery on a grape" meme.

Some memes have even used the formats of older memes.

And of course the brands got in on the joke too.

Forever grateful that surgery was performed on a grape, for both science and meme-related reasons.
