NAM Summits:

 

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has held thus far a total of 17 Summit Conferences of Heads of State or Government. In all of these, Member States of the Movement have upheld their anti-war and pacifist principles against imperialism in all its forms. They have also reaffirmed and underscored the Movement’s abiding faith in and strong commitment to its founding principles, as proclaimed in the Bandung Conference of 1955, its ideals and purposes, particularly in establishing a peaceful and prosperous world and a just and equitable world order, as well as to the purposes and principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

Listed below are the Summit Conferences held by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) up until today:

The XVII Summit of Heads of State or Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was held from 17 to 18 September 2016, in the Island of Margarita, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, under the theme “Peace, Sovereignty and Solidarity for Development”. Member States and Observers of the Movement were hosted at that time by H.E. Mr. Nicolás Maduro Moros, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, who was elected by acclamation as Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and under whose able leadership various documents were adopted, including the Political Declaration of Island of Margarita. The Summit Conference was preceded, in line with the established practice, by a Preparatory Ministerial Meeting, held from 15 to 16 September 2016, and a Senior Officials Meeting that took place from 13 to 14 September 2016.

It is worth recalling that Summit Conferences are held every three (03) years, and Ministerial Conferences are held eighteen (18) months after each Summit Conference, with a view to address existing, new, and emerging issues of collective concern and interest to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), as well as to review the progress and implementation of the provisions contained in the Final Document adopted during the precedent Conference.

The XVIII Summit Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) will be hosted in 2019 by H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Summit of Heads of State or Government in reference will be preceded, in accordance with the established practice, by a Ministerial Meeting and Preparatory Senior Officials Meeting.
